Dr Anna Colquhoun

Clinical Psychologist

My Values

“As a person I value being caring, compassionate and taking personal responsibility, these shape my practice by influencing how I approach working with someone and guiding decisions about treatment. I believe the relationship formed with the client is key and try to bring warmth, kindness and appropriate humour to supporting people to make the changes that are important to them. I find being a Clinical Psychologist incredibly rewarding and I feel fortunate to be able to help others.”

A quote that my practice is grounded in:

"There are many roads to Rome”

This is important to me in acknowledging there is no single 'right’ route and each person has their own experience which can lead to their preferred outcome”

  • Who I work with?

I work with adults and older adults who experience a range of difficulties including:

Anxiety | Panic attacks | Generalised Anxiety disorder | Physical health conditions | Low self-esteem | Challenges for people in caring roles | Depression | Work related stress | Adjustment to health diagnosis | Bereavement | Older Adults

  • Therapeutic Models

I take an integrative approach to therapy using models that are evidence based by the NICE guidelines which include:

    • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

    • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

    • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

    • Solution Focussed Therapy

I trained and work in South Wales and I have practiced in numerous NHS roles with adults, particularly older adults. This includes adults experiencing mental health difficulties living in the community as well as in hospital settings, with cognitive impairment and physical health conditions such as pain, reduced mobility and the menopause. This work has included 1:1 clinical work, working with couples and delivering groups. I also have experience supporting staff dealing with emotional difficulties related to their work including staff working for the emergency services.

My roles have provided opportunities to support and develop other staff through providing clinical supervision, teaching and training. I have been a part of the South Wales Doctoral Programme by delivering teaching and supervising trainee placements.
